Job Search Hacks That Work: Finding Your Dream Job on LinkedIn…

You are an Executive or a future executive. A part of your career success is dependent upon staying on top of the job market and making sure you’re aware of all the opportunities available. Linkedin can be a powerful tool to help you in this pursuit, but it’s important to know how to use it effectively. Here are some tips for how to hack your job search and your career with Linkedin.

Make the Most of Your Linkedin Profile

The most important thing you can do is make sure your profile stands out. I recently heard about someone who updated their Linkedin Profile and the company got wind of it and because they were so valuable, they got a 15% preemptive raise without changing jobs! So, keep it up-to-date always and make it reflective of both your professional qualifications and personal interests. Having a great Linkedin Profile bio that showcases who you are as an individual will increase your visibility on the platform and make sure recruiters take notice when they come across your page.

You should also strive to keep your profile active by posting regularly and engaging with other users. Share content that is relevant to your field, comment on posts, and join industry groups related to what you do – these are all great ways to demonstrate that you’re actively engaged in the community and establish yourself as an expert in your field.

Be Specific About What You’re Looking For

When searching for jobs on Linkedin, don’t just rely on keywords or generic searches – be specific about what type of role or industry you’re looking for. Use filters like location, job title, seniority level, experience level, etc., so that you only get results that have the potential to be a good fit for what you’re looking for. This will save both time and energy in the long run because it narrows down the list of options quickly.

Reach Out and Network

Networking is key when it comes to advanced career opportunities – not just in person but also online! Make sure you’re actively reaching out and connecting with people who could be helpful in landing a new role or advancing your career goals more generally. Reach out directly through messages or follow up after seeing someone post something interesting – either way, having those connections could prove invaluable down the line! Never forget that the person you might not want to connect with might have a rich Uncle or Aunt. Or a relative on a public company board with a board seat for you if you had only connected with little Johnny whose profile was a little (or a lot) 🙂 unprofessional. Think outside the box and remember the higher you climb the higher your responsibility to lift others. He might need your help, so connect.

Connect with Recruiters

Recruiters are among the best networkers on Linkedin and even if you don’t even work in the area that you believe that the Recruiter works in remember the above, and those Recruiters know other Recruiters, many of them! Connecting with many highly connected Recruiters even if in another field will raise your visibility.

Linkedin can be an incredibly useful platform for finding new job opportunities if used correctly! By optimizing your profile, being specific about what type of roles/industries you want to explore further, and networking with other professionals online, and connecting with other strategically, you’ll set yourself up for success when it comes time to start searching for a new role or advancing within your existing one.
