Call me old fashioned, but as a recruiter, the phone is my friend. For me, texting is not a real conversation. I don’t feel it, and the emojis don’t mean much to me. I see people laughing and enjoying their texts, and I’m fine with that. It’s just not real for me.

Maybe I’m a stick in the mud. Maybe I’m just old fashioned. Maybe I’m just old now.

Here’s what I do know. Texting and email matter. But hiring is about people, and you learn more about a person in a five minute call than in fifty messages. You hear the energy, the hesitation, the laugh. That’s where the real match happens.

You know the old saying: hiring would be easy if it weren’t for the people. Robots are great, but they’re hard to find. And you’re not hiring robots anyway.
