U.S. Job Market Update – July 2025
The U.S. job market remains resilient but shows signs of cooling. Nonfarm payrolls grew by 139,000 in May, led by healthcare (+62,000) and leisure/hospitality (+48,000), though government jobs dropped (-22,000). Unemployment holds at 4.2%, but full-time jobs fell by 623,000, and labor force participation dipped to 62.4%. Job openings are stable at 7.8 million, with wage growth at 3.9% annually.
AI and automation are reshaping roles, boosting demand for cybersecurity and AI literacy skills. Hiring is down 10% from 2024, and new graduates face a 6.6% unemployment rate. Policy shifts, tariffs, and an aging workforce add uncertainty, but upskilling and networking remain key for job seekers.
