The role of the corporate CFO has expanded significantly from that of financial controller, to corporate strategist and now corporate conscience and company spokesperson. CFOs must address the stricter corporate-governance and accountability provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and those proposed by the New York Stock Exchange as well as capital planning, shareholder value, global markets, executive compensation, ROI, stock options, IT value and outsourcing, and strategic, operational, reputational, regulatory, and information risk management.
